Genesee Community College is pleased to congratulate 3 students whose essays earned first, second and third place, respectively, in the 2017 David A. Garfinkel Essay Contest sponsored by the Historical Society of New York Courts. Danielle Kinney, Anna Lewis and Shannon Dent were recognized at an awards ceremony in the New York Court of Appeals Courtroom on Law Day, May 1, 2017. The Garfinkel Essay contest invites community college students from around the state to submit essays on topics of legal relevance. This year they were charged with addressing the question: "YOU, the Voter: How far have we come? Is the journey over?" The Leadership Certificate Program seeks to prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities on campus and in their future careers, communities and families. The mission of this program is embedded in a commitment to developing and enhancing a personal philosophy of leadership, a greater sense of self, an increased ability to relate to others, and deeper understanding of inherent responsibilities of active citizenship. This mission is accomplished through applied use knowledge, skills, and understanding of specific leadership theories, concepts, models, and modern leadership issues through a series of training workshops, service learning, volunteer work, and active engagement in the college community.

Buffalo State is proud to recognize the undergraduate students who have completed at least 45 credit hours (30 credit hours for transfer students) at Buffalo State and achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Each year, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the International Honor Society for two-year colleges sponsors the All-State Community College Academic Team with 38 states participating from across the nation. The scholastic program honors outstanding students through a competitive application process that includes a comprehensive essay revealing how each team member has immersed themselves in their community to have a positive impact. The Rochester Area Colleges Continuing Education Association (RACCE) announced that three students from Genesee Community College were recipients of the Outstanding Adult Student Award at its 33rd annual Awards Ceremony and Banquet held at the Hilton Doubletree Hotel in Rochester on April 12, 2017. The Outstanding Adult Student Award recognizes adult students who have excelled academically while successfully combining their college education with other commitments to family, job, career and service to the community. Genesee Community College took top billing at the 50th Annual Conference of the New York State Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges (NYSMATYC) in Syracuse, NY on April 7-9, 2017 with four GCC students taking honors and collectively earning $2,750 in scholarship awards-a GCC record for this particular conference. The State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence was created in 1997 to recognize students who have demonstrated the integration of academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, which may include leadership, campus involvement, athletics, career achievement, community service or creative and performing arts while maintaining a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.8. Each year, campus presidents establish a selection committee which reviews exemplary students. Nominees are then forwarded to the SUNY Chancellor's Office and are subject to a second round of review. Finalists are then recommended and finally approved by the Chancellor to become recipients of the prestigious award. Roughly 1,000 students graduated from RIT at the end of fall semester 2016.

Morrisville State College recently announced the students who were named to the Dean's List for the Fall 2016 semester. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must achieve an average of 3.0 to 3.99 for the semester and complete 12 credit hours.

Degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean's List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of "Incomplete", "D" or "F"; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

The State University of New York at Geneseo has announced its Dean's List for the Fall Semester 2016. To be on the list, a student must have achieved at least a 3.5 grade point average while taking a minimum of 12 credit hours.

More than 300 students met requirements for graduation from SUNY Oneonta following the Fall 2016 semester. Graduates were honored at a December recognition ceremony hosted by College President Nancy Kleniewski and held in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House. They also are eligible to participate in the college's commencement on May 13.

In a continuing effort to make an impact and improve the local community, several residents of College Village, the residence life community of Genesee Community College, spent a day volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Genesee County. SUNY New Paltz announces its Dean's List for the fall 2016 semester, a recognition for students who excel academically and earn at least a 3.3 grade-point average in a semester with a full-time course load.

A total of 1,515 SUNY Oneonta students earned Dean's List honors for the fall 2016 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying a course load of 12 hours or more.
