Mechatronics Phase 1

Genesee Community College ~ Mechatronics Industrial Electronics Program Student successfully completed "Mechatronics Phase 1: Industrial Electronics" through a partnership program with GCC's BEST Center and CNC Technical Solutions, Inc. in Medina, NY. Phase 1 is the first course in a 3-course program. Students who successfully complete Phase 1 have participated in 136 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction and obtained the following competencies: 1. Students will apply basic concepts of electrical theory to build complete AC and DC circuits. 2. Students will use electrical/electronic test equipment including digital voltmeter, oscilloscope, amp meter, hi-potential tester and insulation testers to evaluate and troubleshoot circuits. 3. Students will solder components to create operating circuits. 4. Students will be able to identify electrical symbols on a schematic diagram, pair the symbol with actual components and troubleshoot circuits through reading schematics.

Buffalo State Holds 19th Student Research and Creativity Celebration

More than 400 Buffalo State students presented their own research or creative work at the annual Student Research and Creativity Conference held on campus in April 2017. Students from many academic disciplines including art, business, education, science, and technology explained their work using posters or presentations. Students used gallery and performance space to demonstrate work in the performing and visual arts.

David A. Garfinkel Essay Contest Winner

Genesee Community College is pleased to congratulate 3 students whose essays earned first, second and third place, respectively, in the 2017 David A. Garfinkel Essay Contest sponsored by the Historical Society of New York Courts. Danielle Kinney, Anna Lewis and Shannon Dent were recognized at an awards ceremony in the New York Court of Appeals Courtroom on Law Day, May 1, 2017. The Garfinkel Essay contest invites community college students from around the state to submit essays on topics of legal relevance. This year they were charged with addressing the question: "YOU, the Voter: How far have we come? Is the journey over?" The Leadership Certificate Program seeks to prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities on campus and in their future careers, communities and families. The mission of this program is embedded in a commitment to developing and enhancing a personal philosophy of leadership, a greater sense of self, an increased ability to relate to others, and deeper understanding of inherent responsibilities of active citizenship. This mission is accomplished through applied use knowledge, skills, and understanding of specific leadership theories, concepts, models, and modern leadership issues through a series of training workshops, service learning, volunteer work, and active engagement in the college community.

Phi Theta Kappa New York State Academic Team

Each year, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the International Honor Society for two-year colleges sponsors the All-State Community College Academic Team with 38 states participating from across the nation. The scholastic program honors outstanding students through a competitive application process that includes a comprehensive essay revealing how each team member has immersed themselves in their community to have a positive impact. SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence & Leadership

The State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence was created in 1997 to recognize students who have demonstrated the integration of academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, which may include leadership, campus involvement, athletics, career achievement, community service or creative and performing arts while maintaining a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.8. Each year, campus presidents establish a selection committee which reviews exemplary students. Nominees are then forwarded to the SUNY Chancellor's Office and are subject to a second round of review. Finalists are then recommended and finally approved by the Chancellor to become recipients of the prestigious award.
