Genesee Community College is pleased to congratulate 3 students whose essays earned first, second and third place, respectively, in the 2017 David A. Garfinkel Essay Contest sponsored by the Historical Society of New York Courts. Danielle Kinney, Anna Lewis and Shannon Dent were recognized at an awards ceremony in the New York Court of Appeals Courtroom on Law Day, May 1, 2017. The Garfinkel Essay contest invites community college students from around the state to submit essays on topics of legal relevance. This year they were charged with addressing the question: "YOU, the Voter: How far have we come? Is the journey over?" These competitive scholarships are awarded to students who have maintained high academic standards while in high school, and whose co-curricular efforts have formed the beginning of a lifelong pursuit of extraordinary achievement. Recipients receive two years of tuition-free education at Genesee provided they meet and maintain eligibility requirements.

Genesee Community College took top billing at the 50th Annual Conference of the New York State Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges (NYSMATYC) in Syracuse, NY on April 7-9, 2017 with four GCC students taking honors and collectively earning $2,750 in scholarship awards-a GCC record for this particular conference. On May 1, 2015, over 120 students were recognized for a variety of achievements at the 26th Annual Student Awards Banquet. The Student Awards Banquet is hosted by Student Activities at the end of each academic year. The event celebrates academic achievement, , club and organization involvement, and success in leadership.

Over 75 students were recognized at the Discover the Stars on Monday, September 8th, 2014. This is an annual event that brings together GCC scholarship recipients and donors.

On May 9, 2014, over 120 students were recognized for a variety of achievements at the 25th Annual Student Awards Banquet. The Student Awards Banquet is hosted by Student Activities at the end of each academic year. The event celebrates student achievement, athletic successes, club and organization involvement, and success in Student Government and Student Activities.
