Orientation Leaders (OLs) are current students who work over the summer as GCC ambassadors assisting with summer orientation programs for first-time or transfer students, and their parents & family members. OLs continue to serve throughout the year as mentors and share their experience as successful students to aid in the transition process for incoming students.

These competitive scholarships are awarded to students who have maintained high academic standards while in high school, and whose co-curricular efforts have formed the beginning of a lifelong pursuit of extraordinary achievement. Recipients receive two years of tuition-free education at Genesee provided they meet and maintain eligibility requirements.

Genesee Community College's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society inducted new members at the Celebration of Excellence held on Tuesday, May 8 in the new Richard C. Call Arena. Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through scholarship, leadership, and service.

Membership in the Honor Society requires a 3.25 overall GPA and a 3.5 GPA specifically for Legal Specialty Courses. The GCC Lambda Chi (LEX) Chapter is newly chartered in 2018.

Through the Leadership Certificate Program, students are empowered to learn about and practice their skills to prepare for leadership roles on campus and in their future careers, communities and families. The mission of this program is rooted in a commitment to developing and enhancing a personal philosophy of leadership, a greater sense of self, an increased ability to relate to others, and deeper understanding of inherent responsibilities of active citizenship. This mission is accomplished through understanding and application of specific leadership theories and models through an online platform as well as service learning experiences, volunteerism, and active engagement in the college community.

Buffalo State is proud to recognize the undergraduate students who have completed at least 45 credit hours (30 credit hours for transfer students) at Buffalo State and achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Two SUNY Potsdam students were recently inducted into Kappa Alpha Omicron, the international interdisciplinary environmental studies honor society, during a ceremony held on April 24.

Buffalo State will hold its annual Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Honors Convocation on May 10. The convocation recognizes students who have achieved a 3.0 GPA during the spring or fall 2017 semester as well as students who have a cumulative 3.0 GPA through 2017.

For the 17th year, the poetry contest illuminated the unique and impressive talents of GCC's students. On Tuesday, April 17, 2018 the five winning students were honored at an awards and recognition ceremony in the Alfred C. O'Connell Library where they each received a certificate, gift card, and a journal to encourage them to continue their writing.

Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society. The Society's mission is "to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others." Membership to Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only to the top 7.5 percent of juniors and the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students, along with faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

The Genesee Community College men's soccer team came from behind to win its first-ever National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association D-III men's soccer national title by beating the reigning champion and top-seed Richland College (Tx.) 2-1 at Herkimer County Community College, Nov. 12.
