Walgreens and Genesee Community College Team-Up in a Continued Commitment to Health and Wellness

Batavia, NY (09/14/2020) — Last week the parking lot of the Antoinette Marchese Clancy School of Nursing at Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY was transformed into a drive-in style Flu-Shot Clinic where the staff of Walgreens Pharmacy in Perry, NY administered vaccinations for students, staff and faculty.

"Working with the staff at Walgreens is always fantastic; they are a professional and caring group," said GCC's Director of Nursing Laurel Sanger. "We were concerned that the current pandemic mandates would prevent us from being able to offer the clinic this year but being able to move the clinic outside into the parking lot turned out even better than we'd hoped. The drive-in style set up made the entire process very convenient, which increased participation which will help our community come flu season."

All of the flu shots were administered by Walgreen's employees and pharmacists. By the end of the afternoon, the team had administered 55 immunizations to students, staff and employees.

"We heard many of our students say they 'loved being able to drive up, hop out of the car, get the shot and be on their way'," shared Sanger. "And I'm sure the fact that it was an absolutely gorgeous day didn't hurt the experience either."

The very first of GCC's core values describes its commitment to "effective collaboration and open communication" and its belief that people "are united by (our) shared purpose and value our connections with the broader community in which we serve." Partnering with Walgreens in Perry to offer this clinic is one of many ways GCC demonstrates this value.
