Background: The Genesee Community College Foundation is excited to invite the community to an evening of Icicles and Pearls at the 2017 Encore gala on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. The 26th annual event which raises funds for student scholarships is a local holiday tradition led by community-based co-chairs who bring and brighten the evening with their own personal touch.
Co-chairing this year's Encore are Jim and Patti Pacino, both native Batavians and devoted supporters of Genesee Community College. Their theme, Icicles and Pearls is inspired by the beauty of the GLOW region winters when window panes sparkle with frosty designs and are framed by glistening icicles, and the landscape is dotted with pearls of snow brightened by the sun.
For Encore sponsors, the evening will begin at 5 p.m. with a Prelude Reception featuring "Waterworks: Water Tables & Other Aquatic Accoutrements" by artist, Jennifer Hecker in the Roz Steiner Art Gallery. The exhibit will be accompanied by harpist, Denise Duthe.
All guests will enjoy a delicious dinner reception at 6 p.m. in the William W. Stuart Forum set to a contemporary jazz ensemble by the Derek Reiss Group.
At 7:45 p.m., the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will fill the Stuart Steiner Theatre with the sounds of their special Holiday Pops Concert, led by resident conductor, Stefan Sanders. The performance will feature principal oboist, Henry Ward.
The evening concludes with a sweet dessert reception at 9:30 p.m. in the Wolcott J. Humphrey III Student Union.
"This year's Encore gala is sure to be a special evening for all. From the "Waterworks" exhibit in the art gallery, to the delicious meal and the moving musical performances, Encore is truly an evening to celebrate all that the GCC Foundation brings to our communities," says Encore Chairperson Patti Pacino. "My husband, Jim, and I are thrilled and honored to be a part of it this year."
