Background:
Scripps National Spelling Bee is coming to Batavia for the first time ever. Sponsored by The Daily News and Livingston County News, the two-day event will host 26 sixth through eighth graders to compete in the Western New York Regional Scripps Spelling Bee. Students from Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, Wyoming, Niagara, Erie, Monroe, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties will converge at Genesee Community College's Stuart Steiner Theatre. The 83-year-old organization is has never held its Western New York regional competition in Genesee County.
