Heritage Festival Events Featured in Medina

GCC Participating in the Fourth Annual Orleans County Heritage Festival

Batavia, NY (09/04/2019) — MEDINA, NY - GCC's Medina Campus Center will feature two very unique and captivating events as part of the 4th Orleans County Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 11, 2019.

On Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 1 p.m. grab a lawn chair or take a seat in the grass behind GCC's Medina Campus Center located at 11470 Maple Ridge Road in Medina to watch General Ulysses S. Grant, played by GCC professor Derek Maxfield, and General William T. Sherman, played by GCC professor Tracy Ford, perform "Now We Stand by Each Other Always" live! The three-act play is based on a series of conversations between the famous Union generals during the Civil War. The friendship that developed between Ulysses S. Grant and William Tecumseh Sherman is a touching story on a personal level, but it also was a recipe for the success of the Union military. Beginning at Vicksburg in 1863, the play has a nice arch that allows audiences to see the evolution of the partnership between the generals.

On Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 7 p.m. join GCC History and Criminal Justice students and faculty at the Medina Campus Center for "Forensic Anthropology, Modern History and Honoring Our Dead," presented by Dr. Ann Bunch, professor and chair of the Department of Criminal Justice, SUNY College at Brockport, along with her husband Steve (Lt. Col. US Army-Retired). Dr. Bunch is a board-certified forensic anthropologist who has devoted her scholarly career to using anthropological methods and techniques to reconstruct the distant and much more recent past. Her main focus has been the application of a science to cold cases and the search for missing persons. She and her husband were members of Joint Defense Department repatriation teams searching for the remains of fallen American military members in Southeast Asia. Together, they will explore the compelling crossroads of forensics, history and emotional closure as they trace several multidisciplinary investigations - from Korea and Vietnam to the World Trade Center attack and other recent criminal investigations in New York State.
