Get Scared, Get Started, Then Get Your Degree at GCC

The Race is on for the Fall Registration- Seats are Filling-up Fast!

Batavia, NY (06/06/2019) — "The secret to getting ahead, is getting started," - wise words from Mark Twain. However, Stephen King said, "The scariest moment is always just before you start" and King knows scary. With these two truths in mind, Genesee Community College will again host START to FINISH days this summer to help students overcome any fears and be ready to start classes in the Fall 2019 semester.

The first two START to FINISH days are Thursdays, June 13 and June 27, 2019. Students who have been accepted into GCC but have not yet completed the enrollment process are encouraged to sign up today. Students who have not yet been accepted are encouraged to apply online and also register to attend a START to FINISH session! The entire Fall 2019 semester course schedule is available online at https://www.genesee.edu/courses/schedule/ and full semester of classes starts August 19, 2019.

START to FINISH days allow new students to efficiently complete their registration and enrollment needs for the fall 2019 semester - all in ONE DAY!

Students will use their individualized success track to navigate through the enrollment process.

Stops along the way include:

  • Placement Testing
  • Immunization Drop-off
  • Academic Advisement and Course Registration
  • FAFSA, TAP and Student Loan Paperwork Assistance
  • Student Accounts and Billing Information

Student participants will take home a small gift from GCC plus some valuable "Next Steps" information and resources to guide their journey in FINISHING a degree at GCC.

"Our student success coaches tell students every day, to earn your degree - you just have to get started. That is why we created the START to FINISH program. You've been accepted to College, now start your academic journey by registering for the fall semester so you can finish your degree in a timely fashion. Our team makes these first steps easy for you," said Kelly Starchok, a student success coach who specializes in the College's Business and Commerce programs and is also the assistant women's soccer coach. "Most often, students complain that they don't have time to do the necessary steps or paperwork to complete registration, so we decided to make it all happen in just one visit to GCC. We've streamlined our processes, pulled all of our teammates in and created this one track to move students through each step, based on their individual needs. We ensure they leave campus at the end of the day ready to start classes this fall."

Genesee Community College ran a similar program in January and was able to assist dozens students through the registration and enrollment process in time for the spring 2019 semester.

With the support of GCC's Student Success Center and the inspiring words of Michael Jordan, "Don't be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try." It is time to START to FINISH.
