GCC Theatre Arts Department Announces Fall Production of "Peter and the Starcatcher"

Batavia, NY (11/10/2025) — Genesee Community College's Theatre Arts Department and The Forum Players present Peter and the Starcatcher, a play by Rick Elice based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. As part of the College's 2025-2026 theatrical programming, this imaginative Broadway hit will be performed in the Stuart Steiner Theatre on November 13, 14, and 15 at 7:30 p.m., with a special ASL-interpreted matinee on November 15 at 2:00 p.m. The theatre is located at Genesee Community College, One College Road, Batavia, NY 14020.

Peter and the Starcatcher tells the captivating tale of how a tragic orphan boy with no name becomes Peter Pan-the boy who would not grow up. The story begins at a bustling port in Victorian England, where two ships are preparing to set sail for the far-off kingdom of Rundoon. Tasked by the Queen with a secret mission, young Molly and her newfound friends must protect a treasure from treacherous pirates and jungle tyrants led by the fearsome Black Stache. The journey quickly becomes a high-seas adventure when it's discovered that the precious cargo they are transporting is actually "starstuff," a celestial substance so powerful it must never fall into villainous hands. Along with unexpected comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair, as well as the bonds of friendship, loyalty, duty, and love.

The story provides backstory for several characters and locations from the classic tale of Peter Pan, serving as a prequel to J.M. Barrie's Peter and Wendy.

This production is presented with the audience seated onstage, surrounding the performers and action on three sides. It promises to be both a challenging and rewarding experience for the cast, and an incredibly moving, exciting, and entertaining show for audiences. This wildly theatrical adaptation features actors portraying a myriad of characters. Peter and the Starcatcher uses ingenious stagecraft and the limitless possibilities of imagination to bring the story to life.

The play is directed by GCC Theatre Arts faculty member Sandy Nagar, who also serves as Technical Director and Set Designer. Jasmine Wessel is Assistant Director/Stage Manager, with Vocal Direction by Lauren Picarro-Hoerbelt. ASL interpretation will be provided by Elijah Southwick and Madison Halker. The cast features 17 incredibly talented GCC students.
