City of Buffalo Serves as Creative Fuel for Fashion Guru
Erin Habes to Visit GCC on October 24, 2018
Batavia, NY (10/03/2018) — The Fashion Business Speaker Series at Genesee Community College continues on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 1 p.m. with a special presentation by Buffalo native Erin Habes. The presentation takes place in T102 of the Conable Technology Building on GCC's Batavia Campus. The event is free and open to the public; however seating is limited. Habes is a lecturer in the SUNY Buffalo State College Fashion and Textile Technology Department, the producer and co-creator of the successful Buffalo State College "Runway" fashion show series, a style editor for Buffalo Spree magazine and a fashion consultant for Visit Buffalo Niagara. Within 15 years she has held various positions in the fashion industry, including retail, wholesale, buying, development, branding, strategy, fashion show production and event planning. Her clients have included Visit Buffalo Niagara, Music is Art, Buffalo Spree magazine, Fawn & Fox Salon and Annarlette.
"My mission is and has always been, to spark the conversation about fashion in the Buffalo area and to create collaborations between artists, local designers, businesses, students and entrepreneurs," Habes said. "Participating in events such as the Fashion Business Speaker Series at GCC is a powerful way to help ignite a future in fashion program students."
Habes cites her life in Buffalo as a fuel for her creative energy, "The city's uniquely supportive community shares, builds, creates and enriches. Buffalo has empowered me to think big and 'connect the dots' creatively."
Habes earned her B.S. in Fashion Merchandising in 2003 from SUNY Buffalo State College where she is currently pursuing an M.S. at the International Center for Studies in Creativity. Habes also studied Fashion Textiles & Art History in Siena, Italy in 2001.
"We are very excited to have Erin here to speak to our students and our community," Donna Ehrhart, GCC professor of Fashion, Business and Computer Information Systems said. "Her unbridled affinity for Buffalo and fashion will inspire the students in our program. Her career path touches on all the concentrations GCC offers as well as the enormous potential careers available in the fashion industry."
