Genesee Construction Employees Staying Ahead of the Digital Project Management Curve

GCC's BEST Center Provides a Tailored Program for Local Construction Firm

Batavia, NY (07/15/2019) — Dansville, NY- In today's high tech world, the tools in a contractor's tool belt are much more than hammers, plyers and screw drivers. Larry Merle, president of Genesee Construction Service (GC), a commercial firm headquartered in Dansville, decided his team needed specific project management software training to better manage the incredible complexities of a construction project.

With the help of The BEST Center from Genesee Community College and the availability of a grant from the State University of New York (SUNY), seven employees from Genesee Construction recently completed the Microsoft Project 2016 course. Over four evenings, the staff at GC gathered in a computer lab at GCC's Dansville Campus Center to learn all the nuances of Microsoft Project Management software including project planning, timelines, scheduling, reporting and the many customizable built-in templates. They covered Gantt charts, prepopulated pulldown menus, financial charts, timelines and real-time reporting.

"The BEST Center provided additional Microsoft Project training for our employees that has and will continue to help us become more efficient in our planning, scheduling and completion of jobs," Larry Merle, president. "Our instructor, Bob, answered all of our questions and tailored examples to our business."

And "BEST" of all, the training was not only funded, in part, by the SUNY Workforce Development Training Grant, but the course instructor, Bob Strassburg, is a civil engineer himself. He fully appreciated the interests and challenges that Genesee Construction employees encounter on a daily basis and he was able to customize some of the program to the needs of the staff.

The opportunity was part of The BEST Center's contract services division which specializes in reviewing the needs of local companies and organizations to develop specific programs that address specific interests.
