GCC Announces Encore 2017
26th Annual Event Features Icicles & Pearls Theme
Batavia, NY (11/13/2017) — The Genesee Community College Foundation is excited to invite the community to an evening of Icicles and Pearls at the 2017 Encore gala on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. The 26th annual event which raises funds for student scholarships is a local holiday tradition led by community-based co-chairs who bring and brighten the evening with their own personal touch.
Chairing this year's Encore are Jim and Patti Pacino, both native Batavians and devoted supporters of Genesee Community College. Their theme, Icicles and Pearls is inspired by the beauty of the GLOW region winters when window panes sparkle with frosty designs and are framed by glistening icicles, and the landscape is dotted with pearls of snow brightened by the sun.
Patti is a 1965 graduate of Batavia High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from SUNY Potsdam. Early in her career she was the women's editor and later the director of classified advertising at the The Daily News in Batavia. For 20 years she was a substitute aide in Robert Morris School and then the director of the Career Center at Batavia High School. In 2007 she joined the GCC team as the alumni coordinator and founded GCC's Alumni Hall of Fame. A member of the Leadership Genesee Class of 2002, Patti serves the community as the Second Ward councilman for the City of Batavia. She is also active on the board of GoArt!, in Girl Scouts, Zonta Club and with her husband in the local Kiwanis Club.
Jim graduated from Batavia High School in 1964 and attended SUNY Brockport. In 1967 he enlisted in the US Navy, serving as a Hospital Corpsman at the US Naval Hospital in Philadelphia and with the US Marine Corps in the Republic of Vietnam. Jim is a Purple Heart Veteran. After the military, Jim earned his Bachelor of Science in Medical Science from Alderson-Broaddus University and worked as a Physician's Assistant for 40 years in the Emergency Room at Genesee Memorial Hospital and the Genesee Family Practice in LeRoy.
Involved since the founding of the College, the Pacino family-Jim, Patti and their three children have all studied in GCC classrooms-from the days of the renovated hardware store to the impressive, ever-expanding campus it is today. Now retired, the Pacinos continue to enjoy the College theatre, many community programs and, of course, Encore.
