4th Annual Cougar Classic Golf Scholarship Tournament

Registration is open!

Batavia, NY (02/05/2019) — Last month, the Alumni Affairs Office of Genesee Community College opened registration for its fourth annual Cougar Classic Scholarship Scramble scheduled Monday, July 22, 2019 at the Stafford Country Club, 8873 Morganville Road (Rte. 237) in Stafford.

Under the direction of Cougar Classic Scholarship Scramble Honorary Chairperson Wesley Bedford, GCC class of 2006, plans for the event are well underway. Bedford, a banking professional at M & T Bank, currently holds an associate degree from GCC in Sports Management and is in the process of completing a second associate degree in Business Administration. An Orleans County native, Bedford chose GCC at first because of its location and affordability. Since then, he has been involved with capital campaigns, the annual Encore event and he is a current member of GCC's Alumni Council - all in an effort to support the local community college that made a difference in his life.

Bedford's vision for the Cougar Scholarship Scramble are being made possible with the hard work of the dedicated committee members which include: Tammy Arneth, director of Alumni Affairs, Andrew Crofts, assistant director GCC Athletics, Jeanice Howard, alumna, Patricia Hume, executive secretary External Affairs, Tanya Lane-Martin, associate dean of Students, Taylor Maurer, GCC women's softball coach, Dr. John McGowan, director at The BEST Center, Pamela Reed, clerk-typist External Affairs, Kristen Schuth, director of Athletics, Warren Skye, AEOC outreach specialist, Ron Spiotta, retired athletics assistant, Tom Moynihan, men and women's golf coach and Jennifer Wakefield, assistant director of Alumni Affairs

For those who don't golf-a special new opportunity awaits you. Enjoy the day poolside while "Painting with a Cougar Twist" and tasting wines provided by the Leonard Oaks Estate Winery. Guests are also welcome to join the dinner in Club House. Contact alumni@genesee.edu to register for the non-golfing activities.

The Cougar Classic Scholarship Scramble allows up to 36 foursomes for the 18-hole event at the esteemed Stafford Country Club. Sign-in starts 11:30 a.m. with lunch available, and golfers tee off in "shotgun" style at 12:30 p.m. Registration is $125 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, all beer and nonalcoholic beverages during play, lunch and dinner with a cash bar, and much more! To join the event for dinner only is $25. Most importantly, all proceeds go directly to the GCC student scholarship program, making higher education possible for deserving students in our community.

Sponsorships for golf games, including a putting contest, longest drive, closest to the pin, and beat the pro and other in-kind support efforts are also being accepted.
