Ryan Golden Inducted into Genesee's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

Genesee Community College's Phi Theta Kappa honor society inducted its 52nd group of members on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Batavia Campus. Ryan Golden, a resident of Kent, NY 14477 was among 80 students from Genesee Community College who were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. In addition to being a member of PTK, Ryan is also inĀ Genesee's Accelerated College Enrollment Program (ACE). Through a partnership between Genesee and numerous local high schools, students have the opportunity to enroll in college level courses, earn college credit, and be recognized with collegiate honors while they are still in high school.Genesee's chapter, Alpha Iota Upsilon, was founded in 1985 and has inducted over 2,400 students. At the 52nd induction ceremony retiring president, Dr. Stuart Steiner was inducted into PTK as an honorary member and associate director of Marketing Communications, Donna Rae Sutherland gave the keynote address.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership, and service programming. To be eligible for membership, a student must complete a minimum of 12 hours of associated degree course work and earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher. Students must maintain a high academic standing throughout their enrollment in the two-year college, a 3.3 GPA.

"Phi Theta Kappa was pleased to induct Dr. Steiner in the honor society," Dr. Rafael Alicea-Maldonado, PTK advisor said. "Dr. Steiner has always believed in the value of PTK and he will forever be remembered as a supporter long after his retirement."
