Joanna Stacy Inducted into Genesee's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

Genesee Community College's Phi Theta Kappa honor society inducted its 51st group of members on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Batavia Campus. Joanna Stacy, a resident of Bergen, NY 14416 was among 92 students from Genesee Community College who were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Genesee's chapter, Alpha Iota Upsilon, was founded on February 15th, 1985 by Dr. Bernie Hoerbelt, long time advisor of PTK and retired professor of Mathematics. To date, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) has inducted over 2,400 students at Genesee. Director of Student Activities and recent award winner of the PTK Distinguished Administrator award, Cliff Scutella, was the key note speaker at the ceremony.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership, and service programming. To be eligible for membership, a student must complete a minimum of 12 hours of associated degree course work and earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher. Students must maintain a high academic standing throughout their enrollment in the two-year college, a 3.3 GPA.
