GCC's Asia Slocum-Kehrer Honored as 2026 Tom Hope Media Scholar
Batavia, NY (05/05/2026) — Genesee Community College is proud to announce that student Asia Slocum-Kehrer has been named a 2026 recipient of the prestigious Tom Hope Media Scholar Award, recognizing outstanding achievement and promise in media production.
Slocum-Kehrer was honored during a ceremony held at the Irondequoit Conference Center at I-Square, where six top media students from colleges across the Rochester region were selected for the award. The Tom Hope Media Scholar Program awards stipends and professional support to emerging media creators as they begin their careers in the industry. Slocum-Kehrer's work, Inner Critic, was showcased at the event. The piece explores the journey of a young woman overcoming self-doubt.
The award is named in honor of the late Tom Hope, a pioneering figure in film and video and a nationally recognized leader in media innovation. The program continues his legacy by supporting the next generation of storytellers and media professionals.
