Common App Bootcamp Sessions at GCC in June and August

Batavia, NY (05/14/2019) — There are summer camps of all kinds, but perhaps one of the most valuable new opportunities offered at Genesee Community College will be the "Common App Bootcamp" offered over three days in June and another three days in August at no cost to participants.

For many students, tackling college applications is a huge impediment to college enrollment. From the many forms and fees, to the dreaded essays-the Common Application, or "Common App" can take weeks, even months to complete and submit. And often, students are squeezing this effort in around many other high school demands or other requirements. In addition, many adult students who have been out of school for some time find the whole college application process intimidating and unfriendly.

With this in mind, the Adult Educational Opportunities Center of GCC is hosting Common App Bootcamps this summer to assist anyone in starting, polishing or completing college applications. These sessions are free and open to all-not only GCC applicants. Each session will be held at GCC's Batavia Campus located at One College Road in Batavia, NY 14020.

Interested individuals are encouraged to sign up now (https://form.jotform.com/91044446190150) online for any of the below sessions. Seating is limited and available on a first come first serve basis.

During these sessions, registered participants can work on all sections of the Common Application used by colleges and universities across the country, as well as the SUNY Application or GCC's Application. Students are encouraged to take advantage of staff expertise and experience for help in understanding instructions, fees, how to request letters of recommendation, transcripts, writing a compelling essay and submitting their applications.

Any high school junior, senior, adult or a current college student looking to transfer are all encouraged to attend - whether starting, finishing or just reviewing an application - the AEOC staff can help. While the application to attend Genesee Community College is free and therefore does not require use of the Common App, many of GCC's transfer students often use the Common App upon graduation to transfer to four-year schools to continue their education.

Additionally, the AEOC of GCC is available to conduct general or customized college application workshops at local high schools, community centers, faith-based or civic organizations. For more information, contact the AEOC at (585) 343-0055 ext. 6285, or via email: aeoc@genesee.edu.

The Common App was first developed forty years ago by a group of 15 institutions and today is accepted at over 800 colleges and universities across 20 countries.
